What is GOURI?

GOURI is an injectable product in liquid form made from a synthetic ingredient (PCL) that slowly dissolves in the body.

The name may sound unfamiliar, so we start by explaining the ingredient name.

PCL stands for polycaprolactone. It is a synthetic polymer (a substance with long chain-like molecules) that is also used in other medical materials, such as the threads used in thread lifting.

GOURI is a medical device.

GOURI product video

Polycaprolactone (PCL) is a biodegradable synthetic polymer that slowly breaks down in the body by hydrolysis (being split by reacting with water). PCL injection products are products intended to induce collagen production around the injected area.

In simple terms — GOURI is a product that places a slowly dissolving ingredient into the skin, intended to have the skin produce collagen on its own at that spot. How much change there is, and for how long, differs from person to person.

What is GOURI used for?

GOURI is approved for use on fine lines at the outer corners of the eyes, so we use it within that scope.

Injectable products are not used just anywhere. Each product has its own approved area of use.

Is GOURI also used for eye wrinkles that appear only when smiling?

We first look at the cause of the wrinkle. We distinguish whether it is a fine wrinkle that is present even at rest or a wrinkle that appears only when smiling. Wrinkles that appear only when smiling are mainly due to muscle movement, so we also look at the botulinum toxin procedure information.

A Word from the Doctor

"In any case, an accurate diagnosis is essential."

03

Does GOURI lift a sagging face?

No, it does not. GOURI is not a product that lifts a sagging face; it is a product approved for use on fine lines at the outer corners of the eyes.

Some people look into injections with the thought, "Surgery feels like a burden, and I just wish it could be lifted a little." So we answered this question clearly first.

Sagging occurs when the layers deeper than the skin loosen. For sagging and deeply hollow areas, other methods are considered. Please choose and read the page that matches your concern.

We do not promise effects in numbers or in a time period.

04

How does GOURI differ from other skin boosters?

GOURI is a PCL medical device approved for the intended use of fine lines at the outer corners of the eyes.

Two GOURI product packages and a syringe

This does not mean one is better than another. They differ only in ingredients, classification, and approved intended use.

Skin boosters have similar-sounding names that are easy to confuse. We have put them side by side in a table.

How is GOURI treatment carried out? Does it hurt?

At the consultation, we look at the cause of the wrinkles and decide on the area; after anesthesia, it is injected with a fine needle.

GOURI syringe and packaging

If this is your first procedure, the process may feel vague, so we have organized it in order.

1. Consultation

We first look at whether the wrinkle is present even at rest or appears only when smiling. If we judge that another procedure is right for you, we will tell you so honestly.

2. Explanation and Consent

We explain the approved intended use and the reactions that can occur.

3. Anesthesia

The anesthesia method and the waiting time

4. Injection

It is injected within the method and dose range set out in the instructions for use.

A Word from the Doctor

"…It is very important to perform the right procedure on the exact area."

5. Aftercare Instructions

We explain the precautions and the symptoms for which you should contact us.

How painful is GOURI?

The skin around the eyes is thin and tends to be sensitive.

If you are worried about pain, please feel free to tell us at the consultation.

As for how long the procedure takes,

06

How many times and at what intervals is GOURI given?

The number of times and the interval for GOURI are decided at the consultation after looking at the condition of the wrinkles.

You may wonder whether one session is enough or several are needed. It differs for each wrinkle, so we tell you after an examination.

What side effects does GOURI have? When should I contact you?

Swelling, bruising, and lumps that can be felt may occur, and there is no drug that dissolves it. Rarely, if it enters a blood vessel, the skin can be damaged or vision problems can occur.

Because this is something you must know before deciding on a procedure, we have written it as is, without shortening it.

Reactions at the injection site

  • Redness at the injection site
  • Swelling
  • Bruising
  • Embossing (a raised bump at the injection site)
  • Tenderness (pain when pressed)

Conditions that may require treatment

  • Infection
  • Hypersensitivity reaction (allergic reaction)
  • Nodules (palpable lumps)
  • Granuloma (an inflammatory lump that forms when the body recognizes something as a foreign substance)
  • When the injected material enters a blood vessel

Do not wait in these cases

If something feels wrong after the procedure, do not endure it alone. The changes below are ones you should tell us about without waiting for your next visit.

  • When your vision suddenly becomes unclear or looks abnormal
  • When the skin color of the treated area changes
  • When the pain becomes severe
  • When you have a fever
  • When only one side becomes severely swollen or red
  • When hives appear or itching is severe
  • When a lump stays the same or grows after a week
  • When a new lump or red swelling appears weeks or months after the procedure

If your vision suddenly becomes unclear, do not wait, regardless of clinic hours, and go to the emergency room.

If you develop hives all over your body, are short of breath, or your lips or throat swell, call 119 or go to an emergency room.

Precautions After GOURI Treatment

  • On the day of the treatment, it is best to avoid saunas, jjimjilbang (Korean bathhouses), strenuous exercise, and alcohol.
  • It is best not to rub or press the treated area.

As for when you can wash your face and wear makeup,

08

Are there cases in which I should not receive GOURI or should postpone it?

Yes. Typical examples are being pregnant or breastfeeding, or having inflammation at the treatment site. Other cases are checked during the consultation.

The same procedure is not right for everyone.

Contraindications

Typical cases we check during the consultation are as follows.

  • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding
  • If there is an infection, inflammation, or active skin disease (a skin disease with symptoms at present) at the treatment area
  • If you have an autoimmune disease (a disease in which immunity attacks one's own body) or are taking immunosuppressants (drugs that suppress immunity)
  • If you have a history of keloid (a tendency for scars to rise greatly)
  • If you are taking an anticoagulant (a drug that thins the blood)
  • If you have ever had a hypersensitivity reaction to the product ingredients

In plain terms — If any of the following applies to you, please be sure to tell us at your consultation.

  • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding
  • If there is inflammation at the area to be treated
  • If you have an immune-related disease
  • If you tend to form large scars
  • If you take blood-thinning medication

Please tell us about every medication you take and every illness you have. Even things that seem minor are fine.

If you want to have a laser or peel on the same day

Our standard is to separate them onto different days.

If you have surgery coming up or have had surgery

We adjust the timing. The criteria by type of surgery are explained in Can skin boosters and surgery be done together?

Frequently Asked Questions

What is GOURI used for?

GOURI's approved intended use is "temporary improvement of fine lines at the outer corners of the eyes in adults." We use it within this scope.

Does GOURI lift the face?

No, it does not. GOURI is not a product that lifts a sagging face. Sagging is explained in Lifting Selection Criteria.

If GOURI is placed incorrectly, can it be dissolved?

There is no drug that dissolves it. Hyaluronidase acts only on hyaluronic acid. If a lump forms, injection treatment or removal may be needed, so we decide the depth and amount carefully from the start.

How are GOURI and Rejuran different?

The ingredients differ. GOURI is a medical device made from polycaprolactone (PCL), and Rejuran is a medical device made from polynucleotide (PN). GOURI's approved intended use is fine lines at the outer corners of the eyes.
