What is Hilowave?
Hilowave is an injectable product intended to replenish moisture and elasticity in the skin by placing two sizes of hyaluronic acid together.

How does hyaluronic acid act in the skin?

Hyaluronic acid-based injectable products stimulate human dermal fibroblasts (cells that produce collagen) to increase type I collagen production, and the degree of response differs by product.

How does Hilowave differ from other skin boosters and fillers?
What they are made of and what they are approved as differ.

Some people ask, "Is it the same as filler?" That is because the names and uses look similar.
This does not mean one is better than another. They differ only in the material they are made of and in the approved intended use.

What is hard to expect from Hilowave?
Hilowave is not a product that lifts a sagging face. Its approved intended use is to temporarily improve wrinkles on the face.
If you were expecting a single injection to lift the face, it is best to know this first before deciding.
Sagging occurs when the layers deeper than the skin loosen. Sagging is explained in Lifting Selection Criteria, and markedly hollow areas in Filler Procedure Information.
We do not promise effects in numbers or in a time period.
A Word from the Doctor
"In any case, excessive correction leads to poor results."
How is Hilowave treatment carried out?
We look at your skin condition at the consultation, decide on the area, and then perform the procedure.
A Word from the Doctor
"I schedule only as many procedures and surgeries per day as I can handle. This is a promise I make to myself so that I can give every patient the same level of focus and produce better results."
What side effects does Hilowave have? When should I contact you?
Because it is an injection procedure, swelling, bruising, lumps that can be felt, and allergic reactions can occur. Rarely, if it enters a blood vessel, the skin can be damaged or vision problems can occur.
Reactions at the injection site
- Redness at the injection site
- Swelling
- Bruising
- Embossing (a raised bump at the injection site)
- Tenderness (pain when pressed)
Conditions that may require treatment
- Infection
- Hypersensitivity reaction (allergic reaction)
- Nodules (palpable lumps)
- Granuloma (an inflammatory lump that forms when the body recognizes something as a foreign substance)
- When the injected material enters a blood vessel
Hyaluronidase (an enzyme that breaks down hyaluronic acid) acts on hyaluronic acid. Because hyaluronic acid is the main ingredient of Hilowave, it is known that a lump can be dissolved with this enzyme if one forms.
Do not wait in these cases
If something feels wrong after the procedure, do not endure it alone. The changes below are ones you should tell us about without waiting for your next visit.
- When your vision suddenly becomes unclear or looks abnormal
- When the skin color of the treated area changes
- When the pain becomes severe
- When you have a fever
- When only one side becomes severely swollen or red
- When hives appear or itching is severe
- When a lump stays the same or grows after a week
If your vision suddenly becomes unclear, do not wait, regardless of clinic hours, and go to the emergency room.
If you develop hives all over your body, are short of breath, or your lips or throat swell, call 119 or go to an emergency room.
As for precautions after the procedure and when you can wash your face and wear makeup,
Are there cases in which I should not receive Hilowave or should postpone it?
Yes. Typical examples are being pregnant or breastfeeding, or having inflammation at the treatment site. Other cases are checked during the consultation.
The same procedure is not right for everyone.
Typical cases checked at the consultation are as follows. Being pregnant or breastfeeding. Having an infection, inflammation, or active skin disease (a skin disease with symptoms at present) at the treatment area. Having an autoimmune disease (a disease in which immunity attacks one's own body) or taking immunosuppressants (drugs that suppress immunity). Taking anticoagulants (blood-thinning drugs). Having had a hypersensitivity reaction to the product ingredients.
In plain terms — If any of the following applies to you, please be sure to tell us at your consultation.
- If you are pregnant or breastfeeding
- If there is inflammation at the area to be treated
- If you have an immune-related disease
- If you take blood-thinning medication
Please tell us about every medication you take and every illness you have. Even things that seem minor are fine.
If you have surgery coming up or have had surgery
We adjust the timing. The criteria by type of surgery are explained in Can skin boosters and surgery be done together?
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Hilowave a filler?
No. On the internet it is sometimes introduced with the phrase "instead of filler," but Hilowave is a product approved by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety as a biomaterial for tissue restoration under the medical device item classification.
Does a sagging face lift after Hilowave?
No. The approved intended use of Hilowave is to temporarily improve wrinkles on the face. Sagging is a matter of layers deeper than the skin, so it is explained in Lifting Selection Criteria.
