01

What is Rejuran?

Rejuran is an injectable product that places an ingredient made from DNA fragments (PN) inside the skin.

Female model with her hand on her chest

The ingredient name may sound difficult, so we explain it one piece at a time.

PN is short for polynucleotide. It is an ingredient made of the small units that make up DNA joined in long chains. The PN in Rejuran is known to be obtained from fish such as salmon.

Mechanism

An ingredient of the same family as polynucleotide (PN), PDRN, helps fibroblasts (the cells that make collagen) multiply in laboratory studies and acts in the direction of reducing substances that cause inflammation. How much this action appears in human skin differs from person to person.

In simple terms — it is a product that places an ingredient made from DNA fragments inside the skin, aiming to create an environment in which skin cells can work well. Because this explanation comes from laboratory studies, the change you actually feel can differ from person to person.

02

How do Rejuran, Rejuran I, and Rejuran HB Plus differ?

All three products are PN medical devices from PharmaResearch, and each has a different place of use and composition.

It is natural to be confused because the names are similar.

This does not mean that one product is better than another.

How does Rejuran differ from other skin boosters?

Rejuran is a medical device with a PN ingredient. Re2O and Cell Re DM are human tissue made from donated human skin tissue. The materials they are made from and the classifications set by the government differ.

There are so many skin booster names that it becomes much easier to sort them out by first putting what each is made of side by side.

03

For which concerns is Rejuran considered?

It is considered when the concern is the condition of the skin itself, such as skin that has become thinner and more fine wrinkles.

If you have felt that your skin in the mirror is not what it used to be, let us look together first at the kind of concern, rather than at product names.

We do not choose the product first. We first sort out whether your concern is a problem of the skin itself, of hollowness, or of sagging. The criteria for sorting are in Criteria for Choosing a Skin Booster.

Can I have Rejuran under the eyes as well?

The area is decided at the examination. Each product has an approved intended use, and we decide the area within that range.

If you came to this part because the area under your eyes bothers you, we first show why it is done differently for each area.

04

What is hard to expect from Rejuran?

Rejuran is not a product that lifts a sagging face or fills hollow areas.

This is something we want you to know before receiving it, so we make it clear first.

Rejuran is a product injected into the inner layer of the skin. Sagging occurs when layers deeper than that become loose. That is why for sagging and deeply hollow areas we also look at other methods.

We do not promise effects in numbers or in a time period.

A Word from the Doctor

"We hold ourselves to a high standard for results and avoid unnecessary or excessive procedures."

05

How is a Rejuran procedure done? Does it hurt?

At the consultation we look at the condition of your skin and decide the product and the area, then give anesthesia and inject by needle or cannula.

For those receiving it for the first time, the sequence may feel vague, so we have written it step by step.

1. Consultation

We start by looking at what is bothering you. If we judge that a different procedure is more suitable, we will tell you so.

2. Explanation and Consent

We explain the product, the area, and the reactions that may occur.

3. Anesthesia

The anesthesia method and the waiting time

4. Injection

It is injected with a needle or a cannula (a tube with a rounded tip). Which tool is used and at what depth depends on the product and the area.

5. Aftercare Instructions

We explain the precautions and the symptoms for which you should contact us.

How painful is Rejuran?

Pain differs depending on the area. Areas where the skin is thin, such as under the eyes, are more sensitive.

If you are worried about pain, please feel free to tell us at the consultation.

As for how long the procedure takes,

06

How many Rejuran sessions are given, and at what intervals?

The number of Rejuran sessions and the interval are decided at the consultation after looking at the product and your skin condition.

How many visits you will need is essential information for planning your schedule, so it may be the first thing you wonder about.

Number of sessions
Interval

If you have an important event, please tell us in advance. Right after the procedure there may be redness, swelling, or raised bumps at the injection sites, so it is best to leave some time before and after your schedule.

07

What are the side effects of Rejuran? When should I contact you?

Because it is an injection procedure, swelling, bruising, raised bumps at the injection sites, and allergy can occur. Rarely, if it enters a blood vessel, the skin can be damaged or vision problems can occur.

This is information you need to know before deciding on even a single injection, so we have written it without shortening it.

A Word from the Doctor

"No matter how simple the procedure, there is no procedure or surgery without any side effects at all."

Reactions at the injection site

  • Redness at the injection site
  • Swelling
  • Bruising
  • Embossing (a raised bump at the injection site)
  • Tenderness (pain when pressed)

Conditions that may require treatment

  • Infection
  • Hypersensitivity reaction (allergic reaction)
  • Nodules (palpable lumps)
  • Granuloma (an inflammatory lump that forms when the body recognizes something as a foreign substance)
  • When the injected material enters a blood vessel

Do not wait in these cases

The changes below are ones you should tell us about without waiting until your next visit.

If something after the procedure feels wrong, do not endure it alone.

  • When your vision suddenly becomes unclear or looks abnormal
  • When the skin color of the treated area changes
  • When the pain becomes severe
  • When you have a fever
  • When only one side becomes severely swollen or red
  • When hives appear or itching is severe
  • When a lump stays the same or grows after a week

If your vision suddenly becomes unclear, do not wait, regardless of clinic hours, and go to the emergency room.

If you develop hives all over your body, are short of breath, or your lips or throat swell, call 119 or go to an emergency room.

Precautions after a Rejuran procedure

  • On the day of the treatment, it is best to avoid saunas, jjimjilbang (Korean bathhouses), strenuous exercise, and alcohol.
  • If bruising appears, apply a cold compress for the first few days, and keep the area warm after that.

As for when you can wash your face and wear makeup,

08

Are there cases in which Rejuran should not be received or should be postponed?

Yes. Typical examples are being pregnant or breastfeeding, or having inflammation at the treatment site. Other cases are checked during the consultation.

A procedure is not right for everyone right now.

Contraindications

Typical cases we check during the consultation are as follows.

  • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding
  • If there is an infection, inflammation, or active skin disease (a skin disease with symptoms at present) at the treatment area
  • If you have an autoimmune disease (a disease in which immunity attacks one's own body) or are taking immunosuppressants (drugs that suppress immunity)
  • If you have a history of keloid (a tendency for scars to rise greatly)
  • If you are taking an anticoagulant (a drug that thins the blood)
  • If you have ever had a hypersensitivity reaction to the product ingredients

In plain terms — If any of the following applies to you, please be sure to tell us at your consultation.

  • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding
  • If there is inflammation at the area to be treated
  • If you have an immune-related disease
  • If you tend to form large scars
  • If you take blood-thinning medication
  • If you have had an allergy to fish or to injectable products

Please tell us about all the medicines you take and all the conditions you have.

If you have surgery coming up or have had surgery

We adjust the timing. The criteria by type of surgery are explained in Can skin boosters and surgery be done together?

If a surgery date has been set, please tell us in advance at the consultation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Rejuran a filler?

No. Although it is sometimes called a "PN filler" in papers and advertisements, Rejuran is not a product meant to fill the volume of hollow areas.

Which is better, Rejuran or Re2O?

We cannot say that either one is better. Rejuran is a medical device with a PN ingredient, and Re2O is human tissue made from donated human skin. Which one to consider is decided at the consultation after looking at your skin condition.

Will Rejuran lift a sagging face?

No. Rejuran is a product injected into the inner layer of the skin. Sagging is explained in Criteria for Choosing a Lift.

Can I have Rejuran if I am allergic to fish?

Please be sure to tell us at the consultation. The PN in Rejuran is known to be an ingredient obtained from fish. We decide according to the criteria in the product's instructions for use.

Can I have Rejuran together with surgery?

It depends on the type of surgery. The criteria are in Can a skin booster be combined with surgery?.
