The Saying “Plastic Surgery Is a Matter of Luck”
Sometimes I hear something like this. “Plastic surgery is luck of the draw. A friend of mine had a good result, but I…”
In the end, it is saying that plastic surgery is luck. So people agonize a great deal and hesitate over deciding on surgery or choosing a clinic. I especially see people agonizing over the decision about revision surgery.
In fact, if you think of it only as luck, no one would be able to decide. If it is luck of the draw, how could anyone have surgery, especially on the face?
It Is Not Luck. It Is Probability
I see it as closer to probability than to luck. Of course, the probability is not 100 percent either. But it is possible to raise the probability.
Conversely, removing unnecessary risks and factors that could lead to failure, and thereby relatively raising the probability of success, is also a good approach.
Before-and-After Photos Alone Do Not Raise the Probability
If you choose a clinic based only on before-and-after photos, the probability does not seem likely to be very high. There are two reasons.
First, the photos posted will be of cases that turned out well. Second, skin type and various other factors will be different from yours.
Some people also ask to be shown cases that are exactly or very similar to their own. I understand the frustration, but that too does not mean much for raising the probability.
And the more a clinic is promoted, the more exposure it gets. This too does not seem to have much to do with the result of the surgery.
Why I Am Telling You This
Patients agonize a great deal when deciding on surgery or choosing a plastic surgery clinic. But I often see them end up deciding in an unfortunate, mistaken direction.
You could call it a bad move after long deliberation.
Steady Results Rather Than a Perfect Score
In any case, we must make an effort to raise the probability. And it is important that the results stay consistently at a certain level.
Even if it is not a perfect score, producing consistent and steady results is far better than producing uneven results.
The Consultation Before Surgery Raises the Probability
The surgery itself is important, but what comes before and after it is also very important.
In a thorough consultation before surgery, you will be able to sense whether you are in sync with the doctor and also with the clinic staff. And it is important that the doctor and staff fully understand what you want.
This can be even more meaningful for revision surgery, not to mention a first surgery. Understanding each other's exact requirements through a thorough consultation is a great help in raising the probability.
The Process of Watching Progress After Surgery
The care after surgery and the process of watching progress cannot be overlooked either. This process plays a major role in reducing the risk of failure.
Careful treatment and follow-up observation after surgery are essential for avoiding major problems. At this point, the rapport between the clinic and the patient is truly important.
In this process, I cannot be thankful enough to the patients who trust us and follow along. This is because the recovery period is the time when people are most easily swayed by what other people or the internet say.
The Probability Can Be Raised
Besides this, there are various other factors that raise the probability of a good surgical result.
Plastic surgery is luck, a matter of chance? Absolutely not.
Please look carefully at whether something is merely pleasant to see and hear, or whether it actually raises the probability. The probability can be raised.
